Position Summary

The Recon Detailer is responsible for thoroughly cleaning, restoring, and preparing new, used, and repaired vehicles for customer delivery, dealership inventory, or final body shop inspection. This position plays an important role in ensuring every vehicle meets the dealership’s standards for cleanliness, appearance, and overall presentation.

The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced automotive environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Clean and detail vehicle interiors and exteriors according to company quality standards.
• Wash, dry, wax, buff, polish, and apply protective finishes to vehicle surfaces.
• Vacuum and shampoo carpets, floor mats, upholstery, and cargo areas.
• Clean windows, mirrors, dashboards, consoles, door panels, wheels, tires, and engine compartments as directed.
• Remove stains, debris, odors, adhesives, overspray, and other residue using approved products and techniques.
• Perform paint correction, polishing, light wet sanding, or buffing when properly trained and authorized.
• Inspect vehicles for cleanliness, damage, missing components, or unfinished repairs and promptly report concerns to management.
• Prepare completed body shop vehicles for final quality inspection and customer delivery.
• Apply dealership identification, window stickers, protective coverings, or other materials as required.
• Safely move and park vehicles throughout the dealership, body shop, and reconditioning center.
• Maintain organized vehicle keys and follow established vehicle-control procedures.
• Keep detailing bays, equipment, supplies, and work areas clean, organized, and safe.
• Properly use and maintain buffers, pressure washers, vacuums, extractors, cleaning equipment, and hand tools.
• Follow all company safety procedures, product instructions, Safety Data Sheets, and personal protective equipment requirements.
• Properly handle and dispose of chemicals, wastewater, and other materials in accordance with company procedures and applicable regulations.
• Notify management when detailing supplies, chemicals, or equipment need to be replaced or repaired.
• Complete assigned vehicles within expected production timelines while maintaining quality standards.
• Assist other members of the reconditioning or body shop team when operational needs require.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous automotive detailing, body shop, car wash, or vehicle reconditioning experience preferred but not required.
• Valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable under the company’s insurance requirements.
• Ability to drive both automatic and manual-transmission vehicles is preferred.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to safely use detailing chemicals, equipment, and power tools.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
• Dependable attendance and ability to work effectively with limited supervision.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of vehicle cleaning and detailing products and procedures.
• Ability to recognize paint defects, incomplete repairs, vehicle damage, and quality concerns.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet established deadlines.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to maintain a professional attitude in a production-focused environment.
• Commitment to workplace safety and proper care of customer and company vehicles.

Physical Requirements

The physical requirements described below are representative of those necessary to perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, twist, and climb in and out of vehicles.
• Regularly use hands and arms to operate detailing equipment and clean vehicle surfaces.
• Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• Work in confined vehicle interiors and around vehicles of varying sizes.
• Maintain sufficient vision to inspect vehicle surfaces, interiors, and finished work.
• Perform repetitive motions associated with washing, vacuuming, polishing, and buffing vehicles.

Work Environment

This position is primarily performed in an automotive reconditioning center and body shop environment. Employees may be exposed to vehicle exhaust, dust, noise, cleaning chemicals, paint-related residue, moving vehicles, wet surfaces, temperature changes, and outdoor weather conditions. Required personal protective equipment must be worn as directed.

Work Schedule

The Recon Detailer must be available to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional overtime.
